The pilot of a Marine Corps helicopter that went missing in Nepal after an aftershock struck the country this week is from Wichita, Kansas, his family said Wednesday.
Six Marines and two Nepalese soldiers were on board the UH-1Y Huey helicopter that disappeared over Charikot, Nepal, at about 10 p.m. local time Tuesday (12:15 p.m. ET), hours after a 7.3-magnitude aftershock struck the region.
Chris Norgren's father, Richard Norgren, said Marine Corps officials visited the family's home and informed them Chris, who was an assistant coach at Bishop Carroll High School, was one of the missing. The U.S. military has not released the names of anyone aboard the helicopter, which was providing earthquake relief to Nepal in the aftermath of last month's devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that killed more than 8,000 people.
