SOT, Totoro, Extinction Rebellion activist: "From cement to construction sites, the impact of the BTP industry is terrible in terms of health and represents a serious threat to the ecosystem. In France, three companies are among the 10 worst pollutors. Lafarge accounts for 4.1 percent of CO2 pollution while Italcementi and Vicat account for 3 percent and 2 percent respectively which in total accounts for about 10 percent of CO2 emissions in France. Cement production reaches 4.2 billion tonnes every year worldwide, that means two kilos of cement are produced per person every day."

Activists from the Extinction Rebellion group occupied a Lafarge concrete plant in Paris' 15th district on Monday morning, in an attempt to disrupt operations at the site as part of an environmental protest.
Every day, trucks leave the concrete production plant in Issy-les-Moulineaux, in the south-west of Paris, to supply the biggest sites in the region. This Monday morning, however, Extinction Rebellion activists attempted to blockade the plant and disrupt its activities.
One activist, Totoro, told reporters exactly why they are targeting the cement industry. "In France, three companies are among the 10 worst pollutors. Lafarge accounts for 4.1 percent of CO2 pollution while Italcementi and Vicat account for three percent and two percent respectively which in total accounts for about 10 percent of CO2 emissions in France," he said.
Dressed in white overalls, several activists threw brightly coloured paint on the concrete trucks and wrote slogans such as "Cement lies, leave sand to the sea" on them. Others tied themselves to trucks and more activists blocked entrances and exits while their colleagues hung huge banners reading "STOP" on the plant.
"Today we will block this site as Extinction Rebellion. It is a special opportunity to alert the public about concrete and its dangers," stated Raf, an Extinction Rebellion activist.
