Spain: Sanchez announces request to prolong state of emergency till April 26

SOT, Pedro Sanchez, Prime Minister of Spain (Spanish): "Therefore, following the recommendations of the experts, including the scientists who advise the Spanish government, I announce that the Council of Ministers next Tuesday will request, once again, the authorisation of the Congress of Deputies to extend, for the second time, the state of emergency on April 12 until midnight on Saturday, April 25."
SOT, Pedro Sanchez, Prime Minister of Spain (Spanish): "Logically, the state of emergency and the exceptional measures we are going to have to take will not last for another 15 days. They are going to last a little longer. It will be the minimum possible, depending logically on the effectiveness of the measures that we will be deploying and the degree of compliance that all Spaniards have over the next few weeks. But it will logically be more than 15 days."
SOT, Pedro Sanchez, Prime Minister of Spain (Spanish): "Will this mean, I insist, that in three weeks, because we are announcing it a week before the second extension of the state of emergency expires, that, at the end of April, everything will be over? No, unfortunately not. Will it mean that we will have the same state of emergency? No, this neither. Because, fortunately, we will be able, depending on the sacrifice that we are making today as a society, as individuals; because in a few weeks' time, when we have already turned the corner, we will see the results not only in terms of figures, but also in terms of recovering our own daily lives. That is, to start recovering some spaces of social relationship that we have lost or that we have renounced to protect our lives.”

These are difficult days for everyone. Days that test our patience by isolating ourselves in our own houses, in our own homes. Days that test our serenity in the face of uncertainty about the future. Frenetic days for many of us too, forced to act and make decisions that we would never have imagined, worried, moreover, about the fate of our friends, our companions, our sick relatives."

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced that he will request an extension of the state of emergency from parliament until April 26, during a press conference in Madrid on Saturday.
"Logically, the state of emergency and the exceptional measures we are going to have to take will not last another 15 days. They are going to last a little longer. It will be the minimum possible,” explained Sanchez, who added that the extension will also be determined by the effectiveness of the measures taken so far and the level of compliance of citizens.
He said that large industry and construction will be able to return to operate with controls after Easter, adding that the return to normalcy will come gradually, and that little by little citizens will "recover some spaces of social relationship that we have lost or given up to protect our lives."
The government announced the implementation of the state of emergency on March 14. To date, the cases of COVD-19 in Spain have reached 124,736, with 11,815 deaths, on Saturday, according to the Ministry of Health.
