Footage recorded in Tehran on Friday shows a whole host of different measures being taken by locals to limit the coronavirus outbreak that has swept through the country over the past fortnight.
Locals can be seen spraying disinfectant to sanitise streets, taxis, buses and even ATM machines to protect citizens from catching the virus. Long queues were seen in pharmacies and restaurants are controlling the temperatures of potential customers on arrival.
"This is a disaster and these conditions are worse than the period of war and bombarding, economically speaking. Because people have fear, especially about the foods of restaurants and this is their right,” Fatemeh Tarighat Monfared, the owner of Hani Parse Restaurant told reporters.
Fear and confusion were rife among locals. Ali, a Tehran resident, told cameras upon leaving a pharmacy: “My wife and I feel like people do not take it seriously and we are mostly confused about it."
According to the latest reports by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), at least 98,000 people worldwide have been infected by the COVID-19 virus so far and over 3,300 people have died. There are currently 3,513 cases confirmed in Iran.
